Day 15 & 16

Howling Bear Karpol, coach of Russia's Womens Volleyball team is a teddy bear off the court, unlike Bobby Knight...Some of his howling is choreographed to motivate his players...

...Interesting to see his female assistant coach flinching and making faces while he is yelling at the team.

Mary Carillo made way too many dumb references to "The Karate Kid" when tossing it over to the Tae Kwon Do venue.

Team Rhythmic Gymnastics is gorgeous when the ribbons are in synch.

Mang & Yang win China's first Canoeing Gold Medal in the Mens C2 1000m. They were recruited away from the Track & field team.

Birgit Fischer (GER) has won 12 medals in Kayaking...These games at the age of 44, she has won a Gold and Silver.

Dream Match-up of middle and long distance champions in the mens 5000m. Middle distance legend Hicham El Guerrouj (MAR) already winner of the 1500m vs. 10000m winner Kenenisa Bekele (ETH). Bekele has two teammates also in the race which might give him an advantage. Also entered is Kenyan Eliud Kipchoge, which evokes memories of 1968 & 1972 superstar Kipchoge Keino also of Kenya...

...the Ethiopians made a tactical error by allowing El Guerrouj to stay close for the first 5 miles to where he could easily out run them in the final mile (his specialty).

Another middle distance double - Kelly Holmes of Great Britain took Gold in both the 800m and 1500m, making her the British Empire runner of the Games.

Olympic Moments with Jimmy Roberts included some of the quirks found at these Games: Swiss Beach Volleyball partners who are brothers who don't speak to each other unless absolutely necessary; the Greek Synchronized Divers who won Gold because they made the same mistake on the same dive at the same time...talk about synchronization; 42 year-old sprinting champion Merlene Ottey, born in Jamaica, representing Slovenia...

Mens 4x100 relay - USA had the talent, Great Britain had the TEAM. Bad baton exchanges made the .01 second difference in the race.
