Ladies we can be proud of win or lose --- The USA Soccer Team - Great individuals- super team - here's to you Mia, Julie, Joy, Brandi, Christina, Briana, et al
Costas quip - "Later...we will hear from Hamm, Foudy, Chastain, Lilly and Fawcett, but we promise we will not let them sing." (Referring to the joyous Medal Ceremony where many of the girls were pretty off-key with their Star Spangled Banner rendition)
Felix Sanchez - American-born track hero in baseball crazy Dominican Republic
Sanchez was not very gracious toward 4th place finisher James Carter (USA)...I awarded Carter an Ugly American Award in 2000 for taunting his opponents when winning his semi-final heat...Carter also finished 4th in Sydney's finals
I.O.C. President Jacques Rogue favorite moments of these Games: Phelps performances; Belgium's ... winning the Tennis gold; El Garrouj winning Gold at last
200m Gold Medalist Shawn Crawford once defeated a giraffe in a race (giraffes can get up to 30 mph once they get started). He also lost to a zebra, claiming that the zebra got a false start...at tonight's interview he was still taunting the zebra...
They repeated the Jimmy Roberts' segment on how far women have come (how no so far some have come) in the Olympic movement...really great stuff
Trivia - In 1900 Paris, Margaret Abbott became the first American woman to win a Gold Medal (women did not compete in the 1896 Athens Games). She was one of ten women who entered a 9-hole Golf Tournament and shot a 47 to easily take the prize...She had no idea it was part of the Olympic Games.
Strange - in the city named for Athena, women were still not allowed to compete in the 1st modern Olympiad...This year women make up about 40% of the competitors.
There was a Costas Quip somewhere around here - "...gotta love a sport where the referee wears a suit and tie..." (Wrestling)
Seen in the newspaper - A dove from the Olympic Opening Ceremonies landed in Sutomore Serbia...It's leg tag identified it as an Olympic dove...A messanger of peace in a war torn country...
