Day    12***8/24/04***Tuesday

Iraq's quest for Gold in Football ends but it's still a terrific story.

Aussie Aussie Aussie!!! Ouch Ouch Ouch!!! - Part of the training regimen of the Beach Volleyball duo from Austrailia, Sanderson & Cook, is to walk through hot coals.

Ms. Cook's shoulder was in so much pain, that she started serving underhanded late in her match.

My eyes are giving out - On NBC's small scoreboard, I thought it said Cooky Sanderson.

Great Moments in Jim Lampley - "Young & McPeak (USA) don't care what color their medal is (Bronze)...they are all built to endure..."

Synchro Swimming has started!!! - It may look goofy, but try holding your breath for as long as these ladies do and still smile.

On BRAVO's closing today - Amy Hammond looked at what the word HERO means to the Greek people...she also showed us a Gyro, yum yum!!

Touch of Class Award - After winning her Gold Medal in Beach Volleyball, Kerrie Walsh (USA) went around the entire stadium high-fiving and thanking the ball boys & girls and other volunteers. No Ugly American here. Her beauty is more than skin-deep.

Goodbye Roulon - Touching farewell, leaving his shoes on the center of the mat..."only" a bronze this time, hsi incredible upset of Karelin four years ago will reamin an all time great moment in sport history

NBC teaser - "...rousing showdown at Peace and Friendship Hall"

It's the Greek Way - they have a sense of humor about themselves, a commercial ran in Greece, where Olympic runners arriving while the constrcution crew was having lunch in a partially completed stadium...Critics had said they would never be ready in time...

Womens Triathlon - Unknown, Kate Allen (AUT) was 44th out of the water, 10th after the bike ride, and won Gold, pulling an upset over sentimental favorite, Loretta Harrop (AUS) who had lost her brother/training partner earlier this year in a tragedy.

Lookalikes - Derek Miles (USA) high jumper and Alexei Nemov (RUS) gymnast who looks like Val Kilmer, which I noted four years ago...

Pure Magic - Fani Halkia (GRE) 400m hurdles so reminiscent of Cathy Freeman (AUS) winning the 400m in Sydney four years ago...It may seem Track and Field may have lost some of its luster, but when a home grown athlete takes Gold, it's almost as though Tinkerbell spread her pixie dust and makes all well with the world again...

Spirit of the Games Award - 30 year old "rookie" diver Kimiko Soldati (USA), her competition did not last long, as she was eliminated early, but she continued on cheering and encouraging her teammates and competitors.

Another Powerful Brokow feature - In 1944, the Games were cancelled again due to WWII. Waldenberg Prison in Poland held their own version of the Olympics with 6000 participants...They flew their own 5 ring flag which was saluted by both captives and captors (German army).

Israel's National anthem and Flag raised to the top for the very first time...Gal Fridman won the board surfing competition...He will bring it to Tel-Aviv to honor the Israeli athletes and coaches who were slain in Munich 1972.
