The Olympics truly returned home today. The first competition held at Olympia since 394 AD, when the games were banned by Roman Emperor Theodosius.

Women finally allowed to compete and observe Olympic Games at Olympia.

Olympia was the home to one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, the Temple of Zeus. The other Wonders were the Mausoleum at Halicanarsus, the Colossus of Rhodes, the Temple of Artemis at Ephisus, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, the Pharos Lighthouse at Alexandria, and the only survivor (and oldest wonder) the Great Pyramid of Cheops at Giza. RSA is the Republic of South Africa...DDR is the Democratic Deustchland Republik and FDR is the Federal Deutchland Republic...They now compete together as GER.
