Day 2 *** 8/14/04 Saturday

Cute series of commercials - Nike's spots where "ordinary" girls transform into world-class athletes like Marion Jones or Serena Williams.

Nice decoration - Scantily-clad cheerleaders at the Beach Vollyeball venue

Techno-cool but old hat - Synchronized diving multiple exposures show the divers going all the way down in stills

Kinder, gentler America? - The heavy on strings version of the "Star Spangled Banner" played at medal ceremonies instead of the heavy brass versions normally associated with our natioal anthem, gives the old tavern song an air of beauty. Some so-called super patriots wll think this version is wimpy.

Men's gymnastics - the pommel horse- when compared to the dynanism and speed of the Japanese and Chinese, the slow deliberate style of the Americans seems a bit boring. When I fast-forward the video tape, the Americans almost match the Asians in speed.

Goofy commercial - Bud Light's Low -carb Olympics

Predictable - Visa's spots with Yankee manager, Joe Torre, concerned about an injured right arm...NOt one of his pitchers, but of the man who signs his paychecks.

Give him decaf!!! - Tim Daggett (repeat from 2000) and Rowdy Gaines. Both are yelling too much, especially during replays.

Not while I'm eating! - Showing the Russian gymnast dis-locating his finger.

Oh so close! - USA's cutie Caitlin Sadeno nearly pulled off a major upset of World Record holder Yana Klachkoba in the 400m Individual Medley.

Yeah right!/Wishful thinking award - Hallmark commercial where a teenager says she wants to spend her birthday at home with her family and will clean up her room.

Daggett jinx - Extollng how great China's Xiao Qin was and Qin then blows his paralell bars routine.

Nice commercial Concept - AT&T's Trojan Horse data security spot.

Cable TV convenience - on my system, Bravo is on channel 42 and CNBC is on 43...easy to flip back and forth during commercials or boring parts.

Bonita vista award - cameras onboard the sailing competitors show dramatic Aegean pictures.
