"A policeman's job is only easy in a police state. That's the whole point, Captain. Who's the boss, the cop or the law?" ---Charlton Heston ~A TOUCH OF EVIL~
Never heard of this British import but saw Famke Janssen is in it so I had to go.
Good-natured con-man Leo (John Hannah) is slated to run a casino owned by gangster Bruno (Brian Conley). Before starting his new job, Leoo wants to make a big score to pay off some gambling debts. He accepts a hit order from an accountant (Peter Stormare) on his wife Gloria (Amanda Donohue). Meanwhile Bruno's jealous brother Caspar (Ian Burfield) wants to get dirt on Leo and his wife Lily(Famke Janssen) in order to secure the casino job. He arranges to bring Lily's ex-lover and bank robbing partner (Fred Ward) to come to England to take care of Lily and Leo. It turns out that Gloria was not the accountant's wife, only a call-girl to set Leo up on a murder blackmail scheme. It also turns out that Gloria was the lover of Bruno's giant henchman Moose (Tiny Lister) who wants to find Gloria's murderer. On top of that, the people that Leo owes money to are after him.
This one of those movies that are so bad that they are good. All of the acting is over the top charicatures of gangster films. I'm not sure if it is intentionally funny as in dark comedy or just badly made by director Rob Walker and writer David Logan.
It reminds me so much of another movie with all those unlikely twists and turns, I can't remember the name, it includes a love scene between Neve Campbell and Denise Richards.
Anyway it's a hoot
My grade B-
Rated R for extreme violence, language, sex and nudity.
